To helmet or not to helmet...

I took Benjamin to his 9 month appointment about 3 weeks ago and the pediatrician asked if we had talked about his head shape.  She mentioned that he might have a mild case of positional plagiocephaly- an asymmetry in the shape of the skull due to the baby favoring a certain position for laying his head. Click here for an example.  She referred us to a plastic surgeon.  She recommended getting him an orthotic helmet.  I did alot of homework into cost, maintenance, support, etc for helmets.  BTW I also found some cute websites that help parents with decals for the helmets so they can make them "cute."  I know, minor in importance, but if you have to have it on for 23 hours of each day for at least a few months then it might as well be fun. :)

This week we met with the orthotist and Benjamin was measured and given a scan that would give us accurate numbers.  See how that works here.  We got the call today that his numbers are actually too good to get a helmet.  His case is mild enough that a helmet is not necessary.   WAHOOO!  It's crazy to go from expecting that Ben would be wearing a helmet for the next 3 months to hearing that it's not really needed.  Thank God!

2 month checkup

Benjamin had his 2 month check up this afternoon and the pediatrician says he's looking great!  He's 13 lbs even and now in the 75 percentile (meaning he's heavier than 75% of his peers at this age), He's about 22.5" tall (25th percentile) and his head circumference is somewhere around the 65th percentile I think.  We do have to keep an eye on him with the bladder/navel connection and infection possibilities.  We'll meet with the pediatric urologist in 2 weeks (see past post for the whole story if you don't know what I'm talking about.)

I feel incredibly blessed.  And he's cute to boot! :)

More in future posts about the funeral of my grandfather, my amazing grandmother (s), and travelling with a 2 monther...

And the other shoe, I mean parent, drops

Why is it that Joe and I go down at the same time... first it was swine flu last October and now today.  I'm still recovering from a plugged duct, doing my best to rest, heat, etc.  Joe came home today and said he wasn't feeling well.  It seems as if he has a case of food poisoning.  So we have the most exciting house on the block. (sarcasm)  I'm surprised Benjamin hasn't figured out how to use the telephone to call for someone to save him from these boring, under the weather, parents :)

My parents are boooooring and sick :(

I'm sure this will all blow over soon, just stinks right now.
